What's Happening?

The Happening movement says YES! It proposes no new type of spirituality, but provides a method to develop your own spirituality in fellowship with other Christians your age who are exploring their own relationships with God.

The Happening experience is a powerful instrument for renewal in the   Church. It concentrates closely on the person and teachings of Jesus Christ. Giving those who attend the desire to understand and serve the Church. What’s more, it provides a means to continue in the spirit of the Happening after the weekend is over.

A Happening can only be made once in a lifetime, it is not meant to be a substitute for other conferences and retreats. During the two day session the teachings of Christ are discussed joyfully with singing and lively informal discussions. Happeners listen to talks by other young adults and clergy on the topics of Reality, Faith, Grace, Sacraments, Jesus Christ, and Spirituality. Experiential activities accompany the teachings.

You can be yourself while discovering more about yourself. You will never be asked anything embarrassing or be required to do or say anything against your principles. You will meet some great young people who are facing the same problems and issues you face daily. Together you will pose the questions and seek the answers for your world… within and around you.

Once you have made a Happening you can attend other Happenings by working as a Team member on future weekends. The Team has several meetings, including a Team overnight meeting in Greensboro, working and praying together in preparation. Happenings take careful planning to cover so much in such a brief time. A Team of about 40 youth will be facilitators for a Happening weekend.

Happening is open to persons in grades 9-12 who consider themselves intentional Christians.

The cost for the weekend is $90 and includes room & board and program expenses. Your sponsor will make an donation of $10 to help offset the cost of Happening. If you are interested in attending Happening, fill out and return the registration form with $90 to reserve your space. If you wish to apply for scholarship assistance, check the space on the registration form and contact your priest or youth leader. Your church must pay 1/3rd of your fee for you to be eligible for Diocesan support.

If other arrangements must be made, contact the Youth Office @ youth@episdionc.org or (800) 486-0533.

Forms and fees should be received at least three weeks before the Happening.
