Diocesan Youth Outreach Weekend
Under the leadership of Pam Hatley (South Region Youth Resource Missioner), the South Region hosted our first Diocesan Youth Outreach Weekend, with 46 youth from all over the diocese participating. Youth and adults participated in a Poverty Simulation activity Friday evening and on Saturday worked with eight different community agencies, including a community garden at Saint Andrew's, Charlotte; Stop Hunger Now; Love Inc.; old cemetery at Saint Andrew's, Woodleaf; and the Relatives.
"This weekend has got to be so meaningful for everyone here.We were able to help others who weren’t as fortunate as us and had a wonderful time with each other as we were doing it.It feels awesome after helping these people and I really want to do it again.I feel that this is one of the most successful missions that I have ever been on." Vance Morris
"I liked feeling like I was making a difference and doing something meaningful.I felt very selfless in a way I don’t usually on a daily basis. At the Crisis Assistance Ministry, I felt like I was contributing to the community."Emma Lockwood
"To put it simply, today was unreal. To be able to change so many lives with such small actions was so uplifting and inspirational.Feeding 25,000 people with only 3 hours of work – things like this aren’t even considered a possibility in most situations."
"I worked at a cemetery cleaning the area where the slaves were laid to rest. They built the church but they weren’t recognized for it, and it felt good to finally do them justice."Hunter Maupin-Thomas
"It’s hard to tell how much only a few people can do in a few hours, but you don’t need much to impact the world. It is unbelievable what you can do, but once you help someone, the feeling is amazing." Susan Scaggs
